LIFE happens, sometimes when you least expect it. We have all heard stories of expectant mothers suddenly going into labour and giving birth in the unlikeliest of places.

While most births happen in hospitals, there have been cases of babies being born in cars or even outdoors.

A viral post making the rounds of social media claims that a woman gave birth in a Petaling Jaya shopping mall’s car park.

Did this incident actually occur?

In a post on its official Instagram account, 1 Utama Shopping Centre confirmed the incident, saying that a woman had safely given birth in one of its car parks.

Coincidentally, the mall also celebrated its 30th anniversary on the same day.

“30 years of memories and now a miracle at 1 Utama,” the mall said in its Instagram post.

It added that when the emergency call came through, its Customer Service and Security teams acted swiftly to assist the expectant mother.

“They set up privacy screens and ensured she delivered safely with medical support.

“We’re happy to share that both mother and baby are now safe and well at the hospital,” the mall said.

1 Utama also said it was an unforgettable moment on its 30th anniversary and a ” beautiful reminder that life is full of precious surprises.”
