Recently, a few videos surfaced online showing a man accused of shoplifting at a supermarket escaping his captors before attempting to seize an infant as a hostage.

Seberang Perai Utara OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Abd Rahman confirmed that the police arrested a Vietnamese man who not only stole from a supermarket here but also attempted to take an 11-month-old baby hostage while trying to escape.
ACP Anuar said that the incident happened at approximately 12:45pm on Saturday (Aug 9) on Jalan Telaga Air here.
He said the incident started when the supermarket supervisor observed the man attempting to leave the premises with some items without making payment.
The man was stopped by security guards and several other people but managed to wriggle free.
“The man then grabbed an 11-month-old baby boy and pulled out a knife,” said ACP Anuar.
He said the suspect in his 30s was subdued by security guards and several others before he was handed over to the police.
ACP Anuar the case was being investigated under Sections 380, 324, and 506 of the Penal Code, for theft, causing injury and criminal intimidation. – Bernama
