REPORTS of jewellery shop heists have been a frequent topic in the nation’s news this year.
Recently, a video surfaced on social media showing police detaining suspects who were trying to flee after what seemed to be a robbery at a gold shop in Aman Perdana, Klang.
Did this criminal act really happen?
Verdict:
False
The police confirmed that the video was of a simulated hot-pursuit exercise.
Klang Utara OCPD Acct Comm S. Vijaya Rao stated that the practice, conducted on Saturday (Nov 8) at approximately 10am, aimed to assess the readiness and effectiveness of the Mobile Patrol Vehicle Unit, Motorcycle Patrol Unit, and the district control centre in pursuit scenarios.
“The exercise involved coordination with the Control Centre Branch of the Internal Security and Public Order Division, Klang Utara district police headquarters. Two senior officers and 26 personnel took part directly in the simulation,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Nov 9).
ACP Vijaya Rao urged the public not to share videos or posts that could cause anxiety, warning that offenders could face action under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. – Bernama
