Putrajaya Square Comes Alive With Spirit Of Unity At National Day Rehearsal

, Aug 27 (Bernama) —  Square was filled with cheers and the waving of the Jalur Gemilang this morning as thousands of participants and spectators came together to ignite patriotic spirit during the rehearsal of the 2025 National Day celebration.

As early as 6 am, the surrounding area was abuzz with school students, uniformed teams, cultural dancers, marching bands, and security personnel, all performing with enthusiasm and colour.

The excitement of the crowd further enlivened the atmosphere, breathing a spirit of unity ahead of the official celebration on Aug 31.

For a soldier from the  Malaysian Army, Sergeant Norjan Nazir, taking part in the parade was a great honour.

“The experience of marching in front of thousands of people, even at the rehearsal stage, was deeply meaningful as a symbol of pride and confidence in the nation’s defence forces.

“Every step we take is a sign of loyalty and love for the homeland, and I hope this spirit can be felt by all who witness it,” he said when met by Bernama.

For Form Two student Amirah Maisarah Mohd Nor Jairi, 14, the experience of joining the parade for the first time was a cherished memory, especially as she carried the Jalur Gemilang before thousands of spectators.

This year’s rehearsal also introduced several new contingents, including the ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 contingent, the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 contingent, and the Broadcasting and Creative Industries contingent – adding variety and reflecting Malaysia’s role on the global stage.

Adding further excitement, the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) showcased local vehicle assets along with locally assembled electric vehicles (EVs), symbolising the nation’s progress in green technology and industrial pride.

The crowd erupted in applause when 2,000 students from 50 secondary schools presented a stunning human graphics display and choir performance, delivering messages of unity through patriotic songs.

The rehearsal climaxed with a special performance featuring over 1,000 participants in vibrant traditional costumes, accompanied by cultural music and rousing cheers that brought the spirit of independence to life.

Among the spectators was Rosnah Ahmad, 55, who travelled from Seremban at dawn just to experience the atmosphere at Dataran .

“I was moved to see the spirit of our young people. It was worth the journey. The long trip didn’t feel tiring once I witnessed this patriotic atmosphere myself,” she said.

The full-scale rehearsal will continue from Aug 27 to 29, between 6.30 am and noon, with road closures around Putrajaya’s “core island” to make way for final preparations ahead of the celebration.

With the theme “Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni”, this year’s celebration highlights that National Day is more than just an annual event—it is a platform for unity, diversity, and patriotism.

On Aug 22, Ministry of Communications secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa said that the event would feature 83 contingents, over 13,000 participants, 515 assets, 116 animals, and 78 vehicles.

It will also showcase spectacular aerial displays by the Royal Malaysian Air Force, Royal Malaysian Navy, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), and the Royal Malaysia Police.
