Proton posts strongest sales year-to-date in October

KUALA LUMPUR: National carmaker Proton Holdings Bhd has posted its strongest montly sales performance of the year, with total sales reaching 15,575 units in October.

Proton said this marked a 16.3 per cent increase compared to September, pushing its year-to-date (YTD) sales to 129,872 units or three per cent ahead of 2024.

In tandem with the rise in Proton sales, it said total industry volume (TIV) in October is estimated to have rebounded by 32.3 per cent to 77,377 units.

“This is the highest level in 2025 as the Malaysian automotive industry strives to achieve a second consecutive year where sales surpass 800,000 units.

“With two full sales months still to be accounted for, chances are high for total car sales in Malaysia to once again lead all countries in the Asean region,” it said.

According to Proton, 8,373 units of the Saga were sold in October, pushing the model up to second position in the national sales table.

The Saga’s YTD sales for the first 10 months of the year now stand at 59,107 units, ensuring the next Saga will need to excel in all areas to earn its place in the hearts and minds of Proton fans.

Meanwhile, Proton said another 2,693 units of Proton X50 were sold in October bringing total sales for August to October to 10,418 units.

The model’s YTD sales are now 24.7 per cent ahead of 2024 at 23,847 units.

After a torrid previous month when sales declined to low points for 2025, Proton said October saw a welcome rebound for the X70, S70, S90 and Persona.

It noted that the biggest gainer was the X70 as the C segment SUV posted sales of 680 units, a gain of 56.3 per cent.

Proton said while the new e.MAS 5 stole headlines with its lengthy specification list and affordable pricing, its big brother the e.MAS 7 continued to dominate EV sales.

It noted that 758 units were sold, bringing YTD volume to 7,413 units and further cementing its position as the number one EV model in Malaysia.

“We look forward to the commencement of deliveries for Proton e.MAS 5, which will hopefully position the e.MAS as Malaysia’s leading EV brand,” said Proton Edar deputy chief executive officer Zhang Qiang.
