The investigation paper into a case involving singer and filmmaker Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, and a Taiwanese social media influencer has been referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said the investigation paper was submitted to the deputy public prosecutor’s office yesterday.
“We are awaiting further instructions,” he said in a brief statement today.
The case gained attention after Hsieh Yu-hsin was found dead in a hotel bathtub in Kuala Lumpur, where Wee had reportedly met her to discuss filming a video.
Police had reclassified the case as murder following an initial classification of sudden death.
Wee was first arrested on Oct 22 after authorities discovered nine blue pills suspected to be ecstasy in the hotel room. Police said he later tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine and THC.
Wee, who was charged with drug possession and consumption, had pleaded not guilty and was released on bail of RM4,000 on each charge.
He surrendered himself to the police on Nov 5 after the case was reclassified as murder, and his remand was extended until Thursday.
