PETALING JAYA:

Sabah governor Musa Aman has instructed the authorities to carry out their investigation into the death of Form 1 student Zara Qairina Mahathir transparently, thoroughly, and without fear or favour.

“Every aspect must be investigated,” Musa said in a statement today.

He also called on everyone, especially social media users, to refrain from speculating about the case or spreading baseless claims and conspiracy theories about the teenager’s death.

He said such actions would not only affect the investigation, but would also upset Zara’s grieving family.

“We need to let the law take its course and stand with Zara’s family in their search for the truth as well as ensure that the case is solved,” he said.

Musa also offered Zara’s family his condolences.

Separately, the Sabah palace said tahlil prayers for Zara will be held on Thursday after maghrib prayers at the city mosque.

Zara was found unconscious at 4am on July 16 after she allegedly fell from the third floor of her school’s hostel in Papar, Sabah.

She died at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital the following day.

Zara’s mother, Noraidah Lamat, filed a police report on Aug 3 after stating that she recalled seeing bruises on parts of her daughter’s back.

Zara’s body was exhumed for a post-mortem yesterday.

Earlier today, a task force from the Bukit Aman criminal investigation department was sent to Sabah to take over the investigations into the 13-year-old’s death.
