TAWAU, Sept 7 (Bernama) — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today launched the Mobile Integrated Radio and Internet Communication System (PRIME) for Sabah in conjunction with the Hari Bersama Komuniti (HBK) programme at the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI), Kampung Sungai Imam here.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) said in a statement that PRIME is a vehicle-based mobile communication system equipped with satellite, cellular networks, mobile radio, Wi-Fi and drone support.
“PRIME can support disaster rescue operations with greater speed and effectiveness,” it said.
Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa and MCMC managing director Abdul Karim Fakir Ali.
MCMC said two PRIME units are currently deployed in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah, while a third for Sarawak is expected by October 2025.
The HBK community outreach also marked National Day and Malaysia Day across 1,099 NADI centres nationwide, featuring activities such as smart service initiatives, Jualan RAHMAH by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, as well as exhibitions by NADI entrepreneurs.
Highlights included the presentation of contributions under the Didik Kasih Peranti MADANI (PERMAI) programme to outstanding Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) students by the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department (ICU, JPM).
Appointment letters were also presented to NADI Advisory Panel chairmen for the Kalabakan, Tawau and Lahad Datu parliamentary constituencies.
Earlier, Fahmi inspected the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) Phase 1 tower in Kg. Kuala Merotai, which began operating on Sept 27, 2024.
The tower, managed by Redtone, uses the 4-Way Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) with shared services from CelcomDigi, Maxis and U Mobile, and provides 4G speeds of about 50Mbps to some 1,200 residents.
