PETALING JAYA:

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said the temporary power disruption at KLIA Terminal 2, due to an issue involving one of its cables, did not affect airport operations.

In a statement, MAHB said its essential power systems, including backup generators, were activated immediately and the outage did not disrupt baggage handling, check-in counters and flight information displays.

“Our technical teams responded swiftly and professionally, rerouting power from an alternate substation and successfully restoring full power supply within 28 minutes.

“All essential services remained operational throughout.”

The electrical outage this afternoon had caused congestion around the escalators and disrupted activities at shopping premises.

The disruption led to a reprimand by transport minister Loke Siew Fook who said such incidents were “unacceptable” and demanded a full report within 24 hours.

MAHB went on to say that a full report of the incident was currently being prepared and would be submitted to Loke.

“We are currently conducting a thorough assessment of the incident to prevent future occurrences and ensure the resilience of our infrastructure.”
