Poor governance, lack of risk understanding behind Kg Sg Baru polemic

The controversy surrounding the redevelopment of Kampung Sungai Baru in Kuala Lumpur stems largely from a lack of risk understanding, weak governance, and the absence of a well-thought-out strategic plan, according to MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 4th National Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Research Conference 2025 in Sepang today, Azam pointed out that urban planning and land use issues are not new, but ineffective current approaches have left the people bearing the brunt of the consequences.
