Berita Harian quoted a source as saying that the 56-year-old male suspect was arrested and is believed to have 14 prior criminal records.
The source said the incident at Jalan Yew occurred while the officer from the Pudu police station was patrolling the area.
“The suspect stabbed the victim using a knife and immediately fled the scene. However, he was arrested not far from the location of the incident.
“The injured police officer was rushed to Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz in Cheras,” said the source.
Police also seized the knife believed to have been used by the suspect.
Wangsa Maju police chief Lazim Ismail said they would issue a statement on the incident later.
