MUAR, Sept 18 — An unemployed man has been arrested for allegedly attacking his 70-year-old father before setting fire to the elderly man’s house in Kampung Tengah, Jalan Bakri, yesterday.
Muar police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the 32-year-old suspect had also destroyed a car and a motorcycle after setting fire to the house in the 9.43am incident.
He said property and vehicle losses were estimated to be between RM100,000 and RM150,000.
“Before setting the house on fire, the suspect had whipped and stabbed his father with a cane followed by a knife, causing severe injuries.
“The victim is currently being treated at the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital (HPSF) here,” he said in a statement today.
Raiz Mukhliz said the suspect was later apprehended and tested positive for methamphetamine abuse.
He added that the suspect, who police believe to be mentally unstable, is also receiving treatment for minor injuries.
The case is being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire and Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons.
Raiz Mukhliz advised the public to monitor their family members for suspected drug abuse activities which could lead to unwanted incidents.
