KAJANG: Police are investigating a viral video showing two men allegedly stealing car rims and tyres from a car in Semenyih earlier this week.
Kajang police chief Assitant Commmisioner Naazron Abd Yusof said a report was lodged at 1.30pm on Sept 2 by a 19-year-old college student, who claimed he saw and managed to record the incident outside his home in a housing area in Semenyih.
“The complainant witnessed two unidentified individuals believed to be stealing three rims and tyres belonging to his car parked just outside his house. The recording also captured the registration numbers of the suspects’ motorcycles,” he said in a statement tonight.
However, checks revealed that both motorcycles bore fake registration plates, Naazron said.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 379A(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years and a fine, upon conviction.
“We urge anyone with information on the incident to contact the nearest police station or the investigating officer, Sgt Karunagaran, at 012-2449414 to assist with the probe,” he said.
