Police tracking man caught stealing gold chain in viral CCTV footage


KUALA LUMPUR: Police are searching for a man who allegedly stole a gold bracelet from a jewellery shop in Prima Sri Gombak yesterday.

Gombak police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said they received a report on the incident at 8.49pm.

He said initial investigations revealed that the theft occurred at around 5.50pm.

“The complainant, a 27-year-old local woman working as a sales assistant at the shop, reported that a man entered the premises claiming he was looking to buy a gold chain as a gift for his wife.

“After selecting a gold bracelet, the man allegedly grabbed the item and fled while the sales assistant was retrieving a calculator,” he said in a statement.

He said the suspect escaped on a motorcycle.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft.

CCTV clips of the incident, which went viral on social media, showed a man wearing a cap grabbing the item and fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
