Police obtain three-day extension to Namewee's remand order

KUALA LUMPUR: The remand order for controversial rapper Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, has been extended three days, until Thursday.

City police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus Fadil confirmed this in a brief statement today.

Yesterday, Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam said the police are seeking a remand extension against Namewee, to facilitate further investigations into the death of a Taiwanese influencer at a hotel here last month.

It was earlier reported that it will take up to three months before the toxicology and post-mortem examination reports on the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin, better known as Iris Hsieh, are completed.

Namewee surrendered himself at the Dang Wangi police headquarters around 2am on Nov 5, and police subsequently obtained a remand order until today to assist investigations into the murder.

The 31-year-old Hsieh was found dead in the bathroom of a hotel room in Jalan Conlay here on Oct 22.

Namewee, 42, was reportedly in the same room at the time of the incident.
