SERIAN, Oct 5 — A freak mishap claimed the life of a man at Kampung Cina Buntak here on Saturday, after he was crushed by a car he was repairing.
Serian police chief Supt Freddy Bian said the victim, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
“The victim was repairing his car when the jack collapsed, causing the car to crush him,” he said in a statement.
He said the victim’s wife had filed a police report over the incident, with further inves-tigations ongoing.
Separately, two persons were injured after the lorry they were travelling was involved in a single-vehicle crash at Mile 26 Jalan Kuching-Serian on Saturday evening.
The Fire and Rescue Department in a statement said the victims, a man and a woman, were assisted helped out of the vehicle by passing motorists prior to the arrival of res-cuers at the scene.
It said the lorry was transporting goods when it went out of control and crashed onto its side.
“The woman suffered injuries to her left hand and was sent to Serian Hospital, while the man sustained minor injuries,” said the department. — The Borneo Post
