MELAKA: Police are investigating allegations that a kidnapping attempt involving a 12-year-old boy took place in Bukit Baru, which has raised concerns among parents and locals at a primary school.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the Primary Six pupil lodged a report after claiming a masked man pursued him while he was cycling home at about 5 pm on August 15.

“The boy told police the suspect was driving a white van and attempted to chase him.

He managed to escape by pedalling away quickly,” he said on Saturday (Aug 23).

It is understood the victim was cycling home from a grocery outlet when the incident occurred.

ACP Christopher Patit confirmed police received the report on the same day and are now conducting a detailed investigation.

The case gained wider attention after a message believed to have been circulated by the victim’s school management spread online.

The message urged parents to be vigilant and take extra precautions when dropping off and picking up their children from school.

While acknowledging the community’s concerns, ACP Christopher Patit appealed to the public not to spread unverified information about the incident.

“We urge the public not to speculate until the investigation has been completed,” he added.
