KULAI, Sept 16 — Police believe a man who allegedly molested a nine-year-old girl at a kopitiam in Batu 19 here yesterday has gone into hiding after the incident went viral on social media.
Kulai police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee said investigators are tracking down the suspect based on photos and other information received.
“The case is still under investigation,” he said in a brief statement today.
Tan also urged the public not to take the law into their own hands after a RM3,000 reward was posted on social media by an individual offering money to assault the suspect.
He said police have not received any complaints or reports regarding the monetary offer.
Yesterday, Tan said police had received a report on the incident, which occurred at about 7.30pm, and were actively pursuing the suspect.
The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
