KOTA KINABALU: Police have begun investigations into a report from Friday regarding information involving a child witness in the inquest of Zara Qairina Mahathir’s death that was leaked online.

Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Kasim Muda confirmed on Saturday (Sept 20) that a report regarding the leak was received from lawyer Ram Singh at the Luyang Police Station at around 4 pm on Friday.

He stated that investigations were being conducted under Section 507A of the Penal Code for stalking.

ACP Kasim said they were working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to identify the persons involved.

On Friday (Sept 19), the Coroner’s Court postponed its inquest into the death of Zara Qairina after confidential information about a child witness was leaked online.

Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan said it was a setback to the case and had disrupted the integrity of the inquest process.

He instructed the child’s lawyer to lodge a police report so that legal action could be taken if any violations were committed.

The court was scheduled to hear its first testimony from a child witness on Friday afternoon, when Ram revealed his client’s details, including parts of witness statements that required signatures and the names of the five child offenders, particularly focusing on his client, which had gone viral before being presented in the Coroner’s Court.

Ram said he considered it an intimidation against his client.
