KUALA LUMPUR: Three men, aged 27 to 69, have been arrested in connection with three separate cases involving seditious remarks, criminal intimidation, and threats against national leaders.
Federal police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said the arrests were made by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (USJT), D5 Division, after police reports were lodged over viral videos and social media posts.
The first case, which took place on Monday, involved the Facebook account ‘Jibbie Sahaq’, which posted comments of a seditious nature and contained criminal intimidation against national leaders.
A 35-year-old man was arrested to assist with the investigation. The case is being investigated under the Sedition Act 1948, the Penal Code, and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
The second case, which happened yesterday, involved a 69-year-old man who delivered a seditious speech with elements of criminal intimidation during an incident in Kampung Sungai Baru, Kuala Lumpur. This case is also being investigated under the Sedition Act 1948, the Penal Code, and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
The third case involved the Facebook account “Ayien Rose”, which uploaded comments containing criminal intimidation against national leaders and statements that could cause public fear. A 27-year-old man was arrested to assist with the investigation. The case is being investigated under the Penal Code and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Kumar said he will not compromise with any individual who misuses social media to spread seditious statements, criminal threats, or any form of provocation that could disrupt public order and national security. The public is advised to exercise greater responsibility in using social media and to respect the law.
