PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he will look into Umno‘s protest note, objecting to its former members joining other parties in the Unity Government.
The Prime Minister confirmed that Umno had previously submitted the letter to the party and he will consult PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh on the matter.
“We received the letter some time ago. I will check with the secretary-general,” he said when met by reporters after the Finance Ministry monthly assembly here on Wednesday (Aug 20).
Last week, Umno‘s secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said that the party would issue a protest note to all leaderships of parties in the Malaysian Unity Government that have either permitted or are planning to permit Umno members to join their ranks.
The move comes in the wake of recent political realignments, including Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz’s exit from the party.
Zafrul, who is Investment, Trade and Industry Minister under the Unity Government, announced in May that he had left Umno to join PKR, sparking discontent within Umno over the perceived poaching of its members.
