PM quizzes housing developer over lack of schools in Cheras project

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim questioned the developer of a new government housing project in Cheras regarding the lack of essential facilities like schools and places of worship in its development plan.

Speaking at a groundbreaking ceremony of a housing project, said all large affordable housing projects must include provisions for schools.

“Is there a secondary school, a primary school? We must ensure one is provided,” he said.

“If not, take one of the blocks and convert it into a vertical school. I believe one block can be built, and another block must be allocated to fulfil these requirements.”

also asked if a mosque or surau was included.

“If there is one, Alhamdulillah. If not, inform the planners and developers to make it happen,” he said.

He then questioned the absence of planning representatives at the ceremony.

“Where is the director of planning? Is the acting director of planning here? No? Where is the planning representative for the people? Not here either?”
