A light-hearted exchange between Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and US president Donald Trump added a personal touch to the formal signing of the US-Malaysia reciprocal trade agreement today.
As the two leaders reached for their pens, Anwar quipped, “I think I’m going to get this pen,” drawing smiles from those in attendance.
While signing the document, Trump glanced at Anwar’s signature and commented: “Interesting signature.”
Anwar responded with a grin, saying: “Not as interesting as yours.”
Trump chuckled and added: “That’s an interesting signature he’s got. Wait a minute, I’ll show that.”
As Trump completed his characteristically bold signature, Anwar held up his pen and joked, “White House pen,” drawing more smiles from the audience.
Immediately after placing his signature, Trump placed his pen near Anwar’s and proceeded to show the latter’s signature to those present.
“It is very different … very good … very artistic,” he said, eliciting applause from the attendees.
In a final friendly gesture, Trump handed his pen to Anwar, who was later seen placing it carefully into his suit pocket.
