KUALA LUMPUR: PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) has allocated about RM37mil for the improvement of public toilets along its highways since 2023.
In a statement on Wednesday (Sept 17), PLUS said the improvements, which are either completed or underway, cover 56 locations, including Rest and Service Areas (R&R), laybys, overhead bridge restaurants, and toll plazas.
“A total of 32 public toilets were upgraded in 2023, followed by 16 more last year. Another eight locations are expected to be upgraded this year,” it said.
PLUS managing director Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaffar said these upgrades are part of the company’s five-year master plan to enhance facilities and improve service efficiency for highway users.
“As part of this plan, five R&Rs and 11 laybys will be upgraded progressively until 2028,” she added.
Among the upgrades are additional sitting toilets, special cubicles for persons with disabilities, family and child-friendly cubicles, baby-changing rooms, and shower facilities.
“PLUS will continue to upgrade selected R&R and layby locations in phases, including Pedas Linggi Layby (northbound), Bukit Gantang Layby (southbound), Tangkak Layby (northbound), and R&R Machap (southbound),” the statement added. – Bernama
