SARAJEVO, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) — The 52nd International Fair of Agriculture and Food Industry – Plum Fair – opened on Wednesday in Gradacac, northern Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

More than 150 exhibitors from BiH, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Germany and Türkiye are showcasing their products across 5,000 square meters of exhibition space.

Running from Aug. 27 to 30, the fair features economic, tourism, and cultural-entertainment programs, including the traditional Gradacac Blue Nights and fireworks scheduled for Wednesday evening.

Minister of Agriculture Kemal Hrnjic highlighted the government’s growing support for local agriculture, noting that allocations for Gradacac have doubled in the past two years, with a strong focus on the dairy industry.

Mayor Hajrudin Mehanovic underlined that Gradacac has become one of BiH’s most developed economic centers and a national leader in plum production, yielding 5,000 to 6,000 tons annually, of which more than 3,500 tons are exported to the European market.

Founded in 1969 to support local plum growers facing market surpluses, the Plum Fair has grown over more than five decades into one of BiH’s most significant exhibitions in the agriculture and food industry. (1 KM = 0.595 U.S. dollar)
