PETALING JAYA:

Players from two football teams in a grassroots league in Hilir Perak were given a 3-year suspension each from playing in the league, while their teams were fined RM3,000 each.

This follows a viral video of the brawl that showed players trading blows at Padang Speedy, Teluk Intan on Aug 7.

The Hilir Perak Football Association said representatives of Padang Tembak FC and Jenderata FC had been summoned by the association’s disciplinary committee to explain what transpired, Sinar Harian reported.

Padang Tembak FC’s manager was also suspended from taking part in the league for five years.

The association said both teams can file an appeal within 14 days.

One man was also fined RM600 for assaulting a referee at the match, while four others were released on a good behaviour bond for committing affray. All five men pleaded guilty in the Teluk Intan magistrates’ court.
