IPOH, Sept 24 — The Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) sees PAS‘ proposal that the next prime minister be under 70 as a subtle move to reject Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as a candidate for the post.
AMK chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said the proposal was PAS‘ subtle way of putting forward a leader under 70 from its ranks as Perikatan Nasional’s prime ministerial candidate.
“This is just PAS‘ proposal…in the past, when we had a prime minister over 90 years old, there was no such proposal, so I think this is perhaps more of a political move.
“Yes, age may be a factor in leadership, but what matters most is being intelligent, physically fit, able to work effectively, and understanding the people’s aspirations,” he told a press conference after launching the Malaysian SDG Community Health Observatory Network (MASCHON) at the NCMS-CARITAS hall here today.
Muhammad Kamil said young leaders were needed to steer the country’s future, but PAS’ proposal came amid Perikatan Nasional’s ongoing polemic over its choice of prime ministerial candidate.
Previously, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said that the role should be held by a knowledgeable, capable and trustworthy person, preferably under the age of 70. — Bernama
