Four PKR divisions are to hold fresh elections on May 1 following objections by defeated candidates, the chairman of the party’s election committee said.
The four divisions are Jempol, Selayang, Silam and Semporna. “A notice will be issued to these divisions,” said election committee chairman Dr Zaliha Mustafa.
She said a decision will be made by May 5 on the objections once the committee is done reviewing the complaints.
A list of those who have won the divisional elections, either uncontested or without any objections filed, will be announced on May 1, she said.
PKR‘s divisional elections over two weekends this month led to a slew of prominent incumbent divisional leaders being knocked out as members elected lesser-known figures.
Among them were PKR vice-presidents Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and K Saraswathy, PKR Youth chief Adam Adli, and several MPs.
Earlier today, Nik Nazmi submitted a protest letter to the party’s election committee on several issues related to the Setiawangsa divisional election results.
Nik Nazmi, who is Setiawangsa MP, failed to defend the division chief’s post on April 19, losing to actor and film director Afdlin Shauki.
