A PKR grassroots leader has come out in support of Rafizi Ramli’s view that the party should be more aggressive, especially in utilising government agencies to promote the people-centric initiatives that have already been implemented.
Tuaran PKR chief Razeef Rakimin said the government appears to be operating in a “defensive mode” rather than “attack mode”.
“There is no such thing as going ‘slow’ once we are in the government. We should actually be more aggressive than before,” he told FMT.
Razeef was commenting on Rafizi’s statement that PKR’s new leadership must adopt a more aggressive political strategy if they want to secure victory in the next general election (GE16).
He said the party’s approach should be focussed on two key aspects, that is, by aggressively highlighting the current government’s tangible achievements, and openly exposing weaknesses or scandals involving opposition leaders.
Meanwhile, PKR Youth deputy chief Izuan Kasim said the party must not be seen only as being on the defensive, but also on the “offensive” through strategic communications.
“Elections have never been about relying on just one strategy to win,” he said.
“But being part of the government, we must be on the offensive in spreading information about all the initiatives and programmes that have been implemented for the people.”
In the last general election (GE15), Pakatan Harapan won 82 seats, with PKR securing 31. This was 16 fewer than the 47 seats it won in GE14, though the party remains the coalition’s second-largest component after DAP.
