PETALING JAYA:

Pakatan Harapan’s Sabah partner Upko, the Sabah party that has proposed that it contest the coming Sabah state elections using its own logo.

Upko president Ewon Benedick said that the matter is still under discussion and no decision has been made yet by the PH presidential council.

“We want PH to have an emphasis on the Sabah spirit, which is why Upko has proposed to use its own logo. I believe our fellow PH leaders understand Upko’s position on this matter,” he said.

“For me, as long as discussions are ongoing, let them continue until a decision is made. Once there is a decision, we will announce it,” he told reporters.

There has been speculation that Upko would contest under its own logo in the coming elections.

Ewon also confirmed that he would be defending the Kadamaian seat in the coming polls.

Fresh elections to the Sabah state assembly will be held within weeks, after the assembly was dissolved on Oct 6. The state assembly has 79 seats, of which 73 are contested, while six are appointed members.

The Election Commission will hold a special meeting on Oct 16 to discuss key dates and other matters related to the Sabah elections.
