Pulai MP Suhaizan Kaiat has urged Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul to refer Kota Bharu MP Takiyuddin Hassan to the rights and privileges committee over remarks made about a drill conducted by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) at a mosque in Terengganu.
Suhaizan, of Pakatan Harapan, said Takiyuddin’s comments during the 2026 budget debate on Oct 22 were misleading, extreme, and based on false or unchecked facts.
In his speech, Takiyuddin alleged that a group of 10 to 15 men in five cars had “stormed” into Masjid Rusila in a suspicious manner last month. He said they claimed to be police officers, wore shoes inside the mosque, and entered the women’s prayer area.
He also claimed that the men acted without the mosque’s permission and questioned whether this was a repeat of the 1985 Memali incident.
“If I happened to be there with a licensed gun, I would open fire. I would shoot if there was a threat in a mosque,” he said.
Suhaizan said the MMEA had clarified that the drill was part of a planned commando course running from August to November, and did not involve any weapons or tactical gear.
He said he had written to Johari explaining that the allegations against the MMEA were damaging, and had urged Takiyuddin to retract his statement and issue an apology.
“This isn’t just about facts. It’s about respect for Parliament, the truth, and public trust in our enforcement agencies,” he said.
