Perlis Zakat Fitrah Set At RM9 Per Person This Year

KANGAR, Feb 11 (Bernama) — Perlis has fixed the zakat fitrah rate at RM9 per person this year, unchanged from last year.

Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) said the Ruler, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail consented to the announcement of the rate at Istana Siraj in Kuala Lumpur yesterday afternoon.

Accompanying His Royal Highness was the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also the president of MAIPs.

Also present was MAIPs chief executive officer Mohd Nazim Mohd Noor.

MAIPs said the rate was determined after taking into account current market prices of rice, which is the staple food of the people in the state, in line with syariah requirements that set the zakat fitrah at one ‘gantang Nabawi’ per person.

“For Muslims who choose to pay zakat fitrah in the form of rice, the rate is fixed at one gantang Nabawi or 2.6 kg per person,” MAIPs said in a statement today.

MAIPs added that payment can be made through amil (zakat collectors)  officially appointed by MAIPs or via online payment through its official portal at www.maips.gov.my or its digital services platform at digital.maips.gov.my.
