Perlis to present new 4-member exco list to ruler next week

Perlis MB says a four-member exco list will be presented to the Raja of Perlis next week, with declining to join the state administration.

PADANG BESAR: The list of candidates for the new Perlis State Executive Council will be presented to the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, next week.

Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah said the proposed list consists of only four state assemblymen from Bersatu.

This follows a decision by the central leadership not to be part of the new exco lineup under his leadership.

“It is indeed very challenging because we have many portfolios,” Abu Bakar said at a Visit Malaysia 2026 event here.

“This time, at least five portfolios will have to be handled by one exco member.”

He confirmed last week that the appointment could proceed with the minimum four members.

Abu Bakar also addressed the administration of three vacant state seats.

The seats of Chuping, Bintong and Guar Sanji will be administered by the Menteri Besar’s Office through appointed coordinators.

Service centres will be opened in all three constituencies to serve the people.

“When the service centres are opened in those areas, we will also refer to the leadership because those seats are their constituencies,” he said.

Perlis Speaker Rus’sele Eizan recently announced the withdrawal of applications for by-elections to fill the three casual vacancies.

The seats will remain vacant until the next general election. – Bernama
