Perlis KEMAS Committed To Empowering Rural Women In Business

KANGAR, Aug 17 (Bernama) — The Perlis Community Development Department (KEMAS) is committed to empowering women in rural areas, particularly female entrepreneurs under its guidance.

Perlis KEMAS director Mohamad Zaki Ismail said efforts to empower the group in business would continue in line with the implementation of the Wanita Inspirasiku programme themed “Rural Women Going Global”.

“We hope rural women, particularly women entrepreneurs under KEMAS’ guidance, will be able to help increase their family income while expanding the market for their products globally,” he said at the opening of the state-level Santunan Desa KEMAS Programme here today.

The two-day programme, which began yesterday, was officiated by Perlis KEMAS Community chairman Datuk Rozabil Abdul Rahman.

Various activities were held during the programme, including KEMAS entrepreneur sales stalls, Jualan Rahmah, exhibitions by government agencies, an e-sports competition and a gotong-royong kenduri kampung.

Mohamad Zaki said the main objective of the Santunan Desa KEMAS Programme was to develop a knowledgeable, resilient and prosperous rural community, besides fostering closer ties between the government, community leaders and local communities.

“This programme is also part of efforts to support the Rural Development Policy (DPLB), , which is being implemented by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development to ensure more balanced rural development and provide economic opportunities for all groups,” he said.
