Perlis crisis: Pas leader questions Bersatu's double standard over its five assemblymen

KUALA LUMPUR: Central Committee member Mohd Misbahul Munir Masduki has raised questions over Bersatu’s actions, alleging inconsistency and “selective” handling of issues involving its members.

The Perak deputy commissioner, in a brief Facebook post, questioned Bersatu’s decision not to sack five of its state assemblymen after they withdrew support for the then Perlis menteri besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.

Mohd Misbahul Munir, who is also the Parit Buntar MP, compared the action to the six Bersatu MPs who were expelled for allegedly betraying the party after backing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim.

“Six Bersatu MPs supported PMX () and were labelled traitors and expelled.

“Five Bersatu assemblymen withdrew support for the PN (Perikatan Nasional) menteri besar; are they not traitors too? So why were they not expelled?” he wrote.

The statement follows comments by several leaders taking aim at Bersatu amid the political turmoil that led to the resignation of Mohd Shukri, who is also Sanglang assemblyman, as Perlis menteri besar.

Several Pas and Bersatu assemblymen were reported to have submitted statutory declarations (SDs) to Istana Arau to replace Mohd Shukri, which ultimately led to Kuala Perlis assemblyman from Bersatu, Abu Bakar Hamzah, being sworn in yesterday as the ninth menteri besar of Perlis.

The six Bersatu MPs whoexpressed support for are Datuk Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang); Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang); Zahari Kechik (Jeli); Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang); Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar); and Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

They were issued notices of expulsion on June 12, last year, after failing to respond to written instructions from the Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council to pledge loyalty to the party.
