KUALA LUMPUR: Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed was recognised as the Worker Safety and Health Icon (KPP) 2025 at the 43rd Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH) awards ceremony in Putrajaya yesterday.
The award was presented by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad to acknowledge organisations and individuals demonstrating excellence in occupational safety and health (OSH) practices in Malaysia.
The recognition was given in honour of Dr Mohammed Azman’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that Perkeso’s role extends beyond merely providing compensation to contributors, positioning the organisation as a guardian of social welfare and worker safety.
Commenting on the award, Dr Mohammed Azman said it was not merely a personal accolade, but a tribute to the entire Perkeso workforce, who continue to serve diligently to safeguard the safety, health, and well-being of workers nationwide.
“This award is not mine alone; it reflects the dedication of the entire Perkeso family, who tirelessly pioneer reforms and enhance service quality.
“May this success become a catalyst for continued excellence for all of us, insha-Allah. Together, we continue to protect workers and secure their future,” he said in a Facebook post.
Another notable recipient of the same award was Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
Dr Mohammed Azman further explained that his guiding principle has always been to prioritise social safety, rather than simply providing compensation to contributors.
“If we only provide benefits and wash our hands of responsibility, we will be seen as a social security agency that is not accountable.
“With this principle in mind, since taking over Perkeso’s leadership in 2015, I have emphasised preventive measures, which later evolved into the ‘Vision Zero’ framework in 2017 to reduce accident risks,” he said.
He added that early intervention through health screenings allows illnesses to be addressed before they escalate.
“Similarly, rehabilitation initiatives began with the first centre in Melaka and have since expanded to Meru, Ipoh, with plans for centres in Setiu, Terengganu, and Penang.
“This network of efforts ensures that Perkeso is not only an agency providing compensation but also prioritises prevention and rehabilitation as its two main focus areas.
“Alhamdulillah, with these continuous improvements, supported by the entire Perkeso team to ensure smooth implementation, I am honoured to receive the MSOSH 2025 Worker Safety and Health Icon award,” he said.
Since its inception in 1982, the MSOSH Awards have been regarded as one of Malaysia’s benchmarks for recognising organisations that consistently uphold the highest standards in OSH management and implementation.
