Perak palace tightens security for Sultan Nazrin Shah following August assault, but ruler remains approachable to public, official confirms.

IPOH: Security measures for Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah have been enhanced following an assault incident during the state-level National Day celebration on August 31.

A palace official confirmed comprehensive protection protocols have been strengthened to ensure the Sultan’s safety during public events.

The Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja, Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Dr Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin, said a committee meeting involving royal household members coordinated these security improvements.

“We have tightened security, particularly during events involving His Royal Highness and other members of the royal family on the main stage,” said Mohd Zahidi, who chairs the Perak Palace Security Committee.

He made these remarks during a press conference about the state investiture ceremony for Sultan Nazrin’s 69th birthday celebration at the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building.

Despite the enhanced security measures, Sultan Nazrin has maintained his approachable nature and continues engaging warmly with people from all walks of life.

Mohd Zahidi assured the public they would not face difficulties seeking permission to approach or photograph the Sultan during official events.

“If it is done in an orderly and proper manner, the Sultan of Perak will certainly not refuse requests for photographs,” he stated.

He added that both Sultan Nazrin and Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim particularly welcome photo requests from children.

“They have never declined such requests as they are very fond of children,” Mohd Zahidi emphasized.

On September 8, a woman was charged in the Ipoh Magistrate’s Court with using criminal force against Sultan Nazrin during the National Day celebration.

Nurshazwani Afni Mohamad Zorki, 41, allegedly committed the offence on the grandstand in front of the Ipoh City Council on Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab at 8 am on August 31. – Bernama
