PETALING JAYA:

Perak menteri besar Saarani Mohamad has filed a complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) after discovering that his image and voice were used for several fake TikTok accounts.

Saarani said irresponsible parties had used artificial intelligence (AI) to create and post videos on these accounts, falsely claiming he was offering cash rewards and urging the public to call certain phone numbers to redeem them.

“This matter has already been reported to the authorities, including MCMC, for further action.

“If you happen to come across such accounts, I kindly ask that you report them as well,” he said in a Facebook post.

He warned the public not to be deceived by these accounts and stressed that the offers were completely fake.

“All forms of government assistance will only be announced through the official social media accounts of the menteri besar and other official government channels,” Saarani said.

A Kedah leader, Padang Serai division chief Asmadi Abu Talib, had also claimed earlier that two fake TikTok accounts were made to impersonate him for a financial scam.

State deputy police chief Baderulhisham Baharudin said Asmadi, who lodged a report at noon yesterday, was informed on Sunday of the two accounts using his name, image and voice generated with AI.
