PETALING JAYA:

The Perak government has accepted full responsibility for the incident in which a woman rushed onto the stage towards Sultan Nazrin Shah during the state-level National Day celebration on Sunday.

Menteri besar Saarani Mohamad said the state government would not point fingers at any party, as the incident occurred unexpectedly and in a matter of seconds.

“It is a wake-up call for everyone to be alert to security matters, not only (events) involving dignitaries such as the menteri besar or excos, but also public figures who attract large crowds,” Bernama reported him as saying in Ipoh today.

Saarani expressed admiration for Sultan Nazrin’s calm demeanour, noting that he remained on stage until the event concluded.

“His Royal Highness remained composed, received the royal salute, carried on as scheduled, and even mingled with the people afterwards. This is very pleasing, as there was no panic or commotion,” he said.

Earlier, Perak police chief Noor Hisam Nordin said the woman will be sent to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Tanjung Rambutan for observation.

He said the 41-year-old suspect’s remand order expired today and police are still waiting for the Attorney-General’s Chambers instructions on whether to proceed with charges against her.

Separately, Saarani said a police report had been lodged over a fake social media account using AI-generated likenesses of his face and voice.

He said the matter had been brought to the attention of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission for further action.

He advised the public not to be deceived by the fake TikTok account purportedly offering cash and asking victims to call a specific number to claim the money.
