Perak fully recovers from floods, over 3,000 victims still in shelters in Sabah and Kelantan

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 — Perak has fully recovered from floods while over 3,000 flood victims are in shelters in Sabah and as of this morning.

The remaing temporary relief centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Slim in Muallim district in Perak, which housed 39 victims from 10 families, closed at 8 am today.

The Perak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) in a statement said all victims were allowed to return to their homes after the floods completely receded.

The state Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) reported that the water level at Sungai Slim Station, Slim River, recorded a warning level of 24.77 metres, exceeding the normal level of 23.50 metres.

In Sabah, the state JPBN reported that the number of flood victims rose to 2,897 people from 813 families across 107 villages as of 8 am today, compared with 2,813 victims from 752 families yesterday.

All of them are sheltering at 22 PPS and one Permanent Relief Centre (PPK) opened since Sept 9 in five districts.

The committee said Membakut district recorded the highest number of victims with 931 people from 277 families, followed by Penampang (809 people from 220 families) and Putatan (559 people from 140 families).

In addition, the PPS in Papar housed 317 people from 87 families, while 281 people from 89 families were displaced in Beaufort.

Meanwhile, in , the number of flood victims in Felda Chiku 1 and 2, Gua Musang increased to 212 people as of 9 am today compared with 70 yesterday, with all of them placed at the PPS in Dewan Semai Bakti Felda Chiku 2. — Bernama
