Perak FA learns million-ringgit lesson

KUALA LUMPUR: The Perak FA (PAFA) has admitted that it learnt a million-ringgit lesson.

PAFA, on Monday, broke its silence on the Industrial Court ruling in its dispute with former Perak coach Datuk Lim Teong Kim.

PAFA was ordered by the court to pay Teong Kim RM1.04 million for wrongful dismissal.

PAFA president Datuk Azhar Jamaluddin said the association respects the court’s decision and accepts that all parties must follow due legal process.

“We consider this an important lesson not just for PAFA, but for all football associations and clubs across the country,” he said in a statement.

“Issues of financial management and team operational budgets must not be taken lightly. Expenditure must be managed prudently, in a controlled manner, and with integrity to ensure the team’s continuity and stability.”

The Industrial Court ordered Perak FC to pay Teong Kim RM65,000 for each of the 16 months (a total of RM1.04 million) remaining on his contract after he was abruptly sacked on May 24 last year.

The court found his mid-season termination unjustified, ruling that the club had failed to honour the terms of his two-year deal.
