GEORGE TOWN, Oct 21 — Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow is glad that works on package one of the traffic dispersal project between Juru and Sungai Dua toll plazas (PTJSD) have started today.

He said package one of the project involved upgrading works of the roundabout at the junction and the construction of a new flyover at Jalan Tun Hussein Onn.

“This project is broken into many packages and the official launch of the project is scheduled for November 8 by the Prime Minister,” he said in a press conference at his office in Komtar today.

He said the project will involve many different packages and the state hoped that the multi-billion project will be completed within four to five years.

Chow was commenting on a statement issued by Plus Malaysia Berhad today that package one of PTJSD have started today with Naza Engineering and Construction Sdn Bhd as the main contractor.

According to the statement, package one involved upgrading the roundabout at the East-West Interchange (KM135.15 – KM135.4) and the construction of a new bridge on Jalan Tun Hussein Onn (KM133.5 – KM134.5).

The project will take about 24 months and is part of the overall PTJSD project packages.

Plus said the PTJSD project will benefit about 200,000 daily users by reducing congestion along the affected stretch.

The preliminary works on the project will not disrupt traffic flow as the two existing lanes in both directions of the highway will remain open to users.

Package One is part of the RM3 billion Juru – Sungai Dua Elevated Highway that will stretch 17.3km with 9km that is elevated.

The project is expected to fully complete by 2030.
