Penang KPDN destroys RM4.7m of confiscated goods to curb counterfeits and profiteering

SEBERANG PERAI, Oct 30 — The Penang branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) today disposed RM4.76 million worth of confiscated goods involving various offences.

KPDN Penang director S. Jegan said the 2025 mega exhibit disposal programme today involved confiscated items from cases under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, the Trade Descriptions Act 2011, the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, the Trademarks Act 2019, and the Consumer Protection Act 1999.

“The items consisted of various good such as clothing, women’s bags and accessories of various brands, vehicle spare parts, food products, healthcare products, as well as counterfeit branded accessories and electronic devices,” he said at the KPDN Penang state exhibit storage complex in Bukit Minyak here.

He said a total of 81,049 units were disposed of after prosecution and compounding processes were completed.

“Throughout 2025, the enforcement section of KPDN Penang has carried out various enforcement activities and inspections covering issues such as controlled goods, price control and anti-profiteering, intellectual property infringement, hire purchase and online fraud,” he said.

Between January 1 and October 30 this year, he said a total 65,790 premises were inspected.

“A total of 793 enforcement actions were taken involving various offences, with total seizures amounting to RM3,051,106.21,” he said.

He said 625 cases were issued compounds with a total value of RM439,000.

“Two cases were brought to court, with total fines amounting to RM16,000 imposed on those involved,” he said

He said a total 167 cases that involved seized goods have been disposed of and forfeited as government revenue.

This included temporary collection revenue handed to the government amounting RM382,427.01, revenue from sale of seized goods amounting to RM20,100 and revenue from the sale of controlled goods amounting to RM1,734,041.05.

Case items that were destroyed were worth a total RM2,624,832.22.

Jegan warned individuals or syndicate to cease activities involving misappropriation and smuggling of controlled goods and to refrain from engaging in the sale of counterfeit products.

“We advise consumers to be cautious in making daily purchases, especially online, to avoid being deceived by online fraud syndicates,” he said.

He said KPDN will continue to carry out enforcement actions and take firm measures against committing offences under the law.
