Penang Hospital’s Exemplary Care Beyond Expectations

GEORGE TOWN, Sept 10 (Bernama) — A recent family ordeal has spotlighted the high-quality medical care provided by Penang Hospital, proving that government hospitals can deliver excellent treatment coupled with genuine compassion.

Daniel Abdullah, a 25-year-old motorcyclist, was involved in a serious accident on Aug 24. He suffered multiple fractures, including broken ribs and a shattered pelvis, and was rushed to Penang Hospital in critical condition.

Despite initial concerns about whether immediate treatment would be available, the family soon witnessed and was reassured by the efficiency and professionalism of the hospital’s medical staff, right from the emergency unit to the intensive care ward.

“He was in critical condition and could not move at all. We were extremely worried when he was first admitted, but the team took charge with remarkable expertise.

“From the emergency doctors, anaesthesiology, orthopaedics, intensive care unit (ICU), the acute pain management staff, and even the ward staff – everyone showed great dedication and friendliness,” said his 52-year-old brother-in-law, Jailani Hasan

Daniel underwent two major surgeries, the first late at night on the day of the accident, and the second two days later.

Both procedures were successful, enabling him to begin sitting and walking within a week before being discharged.

During his more than week-long stay at Ward C14, doctors from the Orthopaedics Department visited him regularly, carefully explaining the extent of his pelvic and rib fractures as well as the surgical procedures performed, while the acute pain management staff continuously monitored his medication and pain levels to ensure his recovery progressed as smoothly as possible.

Nurses and ward staff provided round-the-clock care with professionalism and kindness.

The family said they were truly surprised and grateful for the hospital’s level of care.

“We never expected a government hospital to provide such excellent services. It has completely changed our perception,” they added.

In contemplating how best to show their appreciation, the family considered sending food but was concerned about allergies, and felt flowers might be inappropriate. Ultimately, they chose to publicly share their story as a heartfelt tribute to the hospital’s medical team.

The accident occurred at around 7 am as Daniel was on his way to Penang International Airport to send his sister and brother-in-law back to Labuan. He lost control of his motorcycle while avoiding a sudden vehicle turning into a junction and was subsequently struck by another car, resulting in critical injuries.

His sister and brother-in-law rushed back to the scene after a distress call, devastated to find him helpless on the road before he was transported to the hospital.

What began as a terrifying ordeal has since become a powerful testimony of trust. The family’s experience stands as a reminder that government hospitals possess not only the facilities but also the expertise and compassion necessary to save lives.
