PBS backs BN candidates in Kinabatangan and Lamag by-elections

PBS pledges full support for candidates in the Kinabatangan and Lamag by-elections, emphasising political stability and coalition unity.

PENAMPANG: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has pledged its full support to Barisan Nasional candidates contesting the upcoming Kinabatangan and Lamag by-elections.

Acting PBS president Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam said the party is working closely with the machinery to ensure both seats are retained.

“PBS remains consistent in its political stance and will give its full support to candidates,” he said in a statement.

Joachim, who is also Deputy Chief Minister I, said this cooperation supports political stability and the MADANI government.

He warned that the party would not tolerate actions contradicting its official decisions.

“Should any member defy or act against party directives, the matter will be investigated and appropriate action will be taken,” he stated.

The Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election is a three-cornered fight involving BN’s Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar, Warisan’s Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman and independent candidate Goldam Hamid.

The Lamag state seat is a straight contest between BN’s Mohd Ismail Ayob and Mazliwati Abdul Malek of Warisan.

Both by-elections were triggered by the death of incumbent Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin on 5 December last year.

Joachim said the party’s Supreme Council meeting also focused on PBS’s strategic direction.

He affirmed PBS would continue to champion Sabah’s interests within the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah coalition.

“PBS will continue to play a constructive role in the state and federal political landscape,” he added. – Bernama
