PETALING JAYA:

John Brian Anthony has been elected as Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak’s (PBDS) new president for the 2025–2028 term at the party’s triennial delegates’ conference, succeeding Moses Ripai.

According to The Borneo Post, Bernard Tahim Bael was elected deputy president and Leighton Manjah the permanent chairman, replacing Brian.

Meanwhile, Bego Sepop, Peter Asut, and Puso Bujang were elected vice-presidents of the party.

Jerry Robert and Simon Peterson Awan became the PBDS Youth chief and deputy treasurer-general, respectively.

Marylyn Mitsui, on the other hand, won the party’s women’s wing’s chief post uncontested.

Those elected to the PBDS Supreme Council include Michael Samuel, Derrick Wat, Ambun Nyanggah, Elia Unggak, Aina Duot, Dennis Enggau, Lalai Kawang, Lansanda Alik, Robert Siting and Wen Achat.

The party secretary-general will be appointed at the next Supreme Council meeting, expected to take place within two weeks.

In April, it was reported that PBDS would contest in Dayak-majority seats in the next Sarawak state elections.

Moses, then party president, had said that support for the party among the various Dayak communities, including the Bidayuh and Orang Ulu, was picking up momentum.

The party vied for 11 seats in the previous state elections, but did not win a single seat.

In 2022, Brian was reported as saying that they were looking to contest 29 out 82 state seats.

Sarawak’s next state elections must be held by April 2027.
