PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad has called on all parties to respect the decisions made by PAS and Bersatu at recent key meetings.
PAS moved a motion at its muktamar last weekend to “lead Perikatan Nasional (PN) and have a PAS prime minister candidate”, following Bersatu’s nomination of its president Muhyiddin Yassin as the party’s prime minister candidate for the next election (GE16) at its general assembly on Sept 7.
“The decisions made by each party are within their respective domains and should be respected by all,” Idris said in a statement.
“PAS remains committed to continuing to work with its coalition partners in PN in preparation for GE16.”
He said PN’s unity was its main strength, expressing confidence that a united PN would be able to offer better and fairer solutions to issues affecting Malaysians.
Idris also said PN must continue focusing on key issues such as housing, the increasing cost of living, and fuel subsidies.
Despite the motion at the muktamar last weekend, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said the PN Supreme Council would decide on the coalition’s prime ministerial candidate for the polls.
PN chairman Muhyiddin meanwhile said that while PN components had the right to nominate their prime minister candidates, the final decision would be made by the coalition’s top leadership council.
