Pas Ulama Council chief: Sanusi as PN chairman an 'interesting' proposal


ALOR STAR: The suggestion to appoint Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Md Nor as Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman to replace Tan Sri Yassin, who resigned on Tuesday, has been described as interesting.

“Jan 1, 2026. I see that many parties are suggesting as chairman of Perikatan Nasional.

“It is an interesting proposal and I agree,” he said on his social media page here today.

Last Tuesday, , who is also president of Bersatu, officially announced his resignation as PN chairman effective Jan 1, 2026, after leading and founding the coalition for five years.

The former prime minister had led PN since the coalition was officially registered on Aug 7, 2020.

Previously, there were several calls from , including from its youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden, urging that the PN chairman position be allocated to .

Tensions between Pas and Bersatu became more pronounced following the political upheaval in Perlis, which saw the resignation of Pas state assemblyman for Sanglang, Mohd Shukri Ramli, as Menteri Besar.
