ALOR SETAR: It is time for PAS to be the nakhoda (captain) of Perikatan Nasional and steer the coalition towards the upcoming general election, says a PAS delegate.
Shah Alam delegate Mohamed Sukri Omar said that as the largest party commanding the biggest bloc in Parliament, PAS can solidify and empower its coalition.
“PAS is not merely an ordinary political party. Since its establishment in 1951, for almost 74 years, we have remained steadfast in carrying the people’s trust, championing reform, and serving as both advocate and voice of the ummah.
Today, PAS not only demonstrates its capacity but carries the obligation to step forward as the primary leader of both Perikatan and the nation,” he said when debating a motion on the empowerment of Perikatan at the PAS 71st Muktamar on Tuesday (September 16).
He cited the success of SG4 in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis, all administered by PAS-led governments.
He said the combined capacity of these four states, alongside 42 parliamentary seats, clearly proves the time has come for PAS not merely to be part of the crew but to take the helm as the chief navigator of the nation’s political direction.
Mohamed Sukri added that as the backbone of Perikatan, PAS stands as its most stable pillar.
“This is evident in our internal democratic process, where elections within the party, across our wings and at the central leadership level, have preserved the party’s core leadership structure,” he said.
He said the ability to govern a nation begins with the ability to govern the party itself, and urged that PAS must remain firm and consistent in proving Perikatan’s ability to lead the country.
