Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has criticised home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail over his response to a question on a police investigation into a viral video involving a PKR division leader.
Fadhli accused Saifuddin of downplaying the seriousness of the issue by classifying it as an internal party matter in a written parliamentary reply on Aug 4.
“This is a disappointing and an embarrassing answer,” the PAS information chief said at a press conference in Parliament today.
The video allegedly shows an individual, believed to be the head of PKR‘s Wangsa Maju division, making claims about unaudited political contributions.
Saifuddin said the police probe into the matter found that it revolved around internal auditing and the administration of the party.
However, Fadhli said the allegations in the video could involve offences under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
“To me, this is a serious claim. That is why I have put forward this question to be answered in Parliament,” he said.
He urged the authorities to investigate the matter seriously and not treat it as merely a case of internal mismanagement.
The viral video appeared to show Wangsa Maju division chief Lai Chen Heng commenting on financial contributions to the division from a prominent businessman.
He allegedly referred to them as “unaudited funds” associated with a senior political leader. However, Lai said the clip was selectively edited and circulated to smear his image.
